Five years ago, our world was turned upside down as the Covid-19 pandemic swept the world. The impact of that time is still being felt by so many, including:
- Grief at not being able to say goodbye to loved ones before they died.
- Limitations on funerals and attendees, funeral traditions and rituals placed on hold.
- The separation from family and friends, at a time when it was needed most.
- The loss of health by those impacted by long-covid.
- Fear and anxiety about going out, catching or spreading Covid-19.
- The impact of social / educational development in children and young people, still effecting their mental health today.
- Burn out / overwhelmed of those on the front line doing their best under such challenging circumstances. Putting themselves at risk of Covid-19 whilst helping the sick and dying.
The day of reflection offers an opportunity to remember the lives lost, honour the tireless efforts of countless individuals, and acknowledge the resilience of communities during these unprecedented times.
For many people these memories are a daily part of their life, even now.
